The long Avakas Gorge Trail is one of the most immersive hikes in Akamas, extending the gorge experience into a fuller and more adventurous outing. It follows the dramatic limestone corridor shaped by the Avgas River, where high walls, shade, moisture, and thick vegetation create a landscape that feels wild and enclosed. Compared with the shorter version, this route gives you more time inside the gorge environment and a stronger sense of journey. It is a standout choice for hikers who want one of Cyprus’ most memorable geological walks in a longer format.

The trail begins on a wider approach before narrowing into the gorge itself, where the atmosphere changes quickly. As the rock walls rise and the stream bed comes into play, the route becomes more physical and more engaging, especially where footing is uneven or wet.

This is still a hike that rewards care and good footwear. The beauty of the gorge lies partly in its natural, unpolished character, so conditions underfoot can be slippery and change with season and recent weather.
