Welcome to Monopatia (monopatia.info). By using this site you agree to the terms below. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

What Monopatia is

Monopatia is a free, non-commercial, informational website about hiking trails in Cyprus. Trail data, descriptions, maps, and routes are provided for general guidance only and are compiled from public sources, field research, and contributions from hikers.

Hike at your own risk

Hiking carries inherent risks, including but not limited to weather, terrain, wildlife, and physical exertion. You are solely responsible for your own safety and the safety of those in your group. Before any hike, you should:

Verify the trail and route against current, authoritative sources.
Check weather and trail conditions on the day of the hike.
Bring appropriate equipment, water, food, and navigation tools.
Inform someone of your plans and expected return time.
Know your limits and turn back if conditions deteriorate.

Trail distances, elevation, difficulty ratings, and route geometry on Monopatia are estimates and may be inaccurate, out of date, or differ materially from conditions on the ground. No warranty is made as to the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose of any information on this site. Monopatia and its authors accept no liability for any injury, loss, or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on any information it contains.

Accounts and sign-in

Signing in is optional and only needed to bookmark trails, mark completions, write reviews, upload photos, sync your Strava activities, or appear on the leaderboard. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or Strava (in the iOS app, Strava is linked to an existing account rather than used to sign in). You are responsible for activity under your account. See the Privacy Policy for what data we store and how to delete it.

Reviews, photos, and other contributions

When you post a review, rating, or photo, or otherwise submit content to Monopatia, you confirm that:

The content is yours, or you have the right to share it, and it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
You grant Monopatia a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, and distribute that content on the site — including in trail pages, the public Community feed, and the leaderboard — for as long as you keep it posted.
You will not post content that is unlawful, misleading, abusive, hateful, infringing, or off-topic, and you will not upload photos of other people without their consent.

Reviews, ratings, photos, completions, and new sign-ups may be shown publicly alongside your display name and profile picture. We may edit, hide, or remove any contribution — and suspend accounts — at our discretion, for any reason, including violation of these terms. Objectionable content can be reported from any review or Community-feed card (in the iOS app) or by email; reports are acted on within 24 hours. You can delete your own reviews and photos at any time, or delete your account entirely (see the Privacy Policy).

Content and copyright

The Monopatia source code is published under the MIT License.
Trail descriptions, ratings, and curated metadata are made available for personal, non-commercial use. Please don't republish or scrape the dataset for commercial purposes without permission.
Trail names, place names, and reference photos may be subject to third-party rights.
Content you contribute (reviews, ratings, photos) remains yours, subject to the licence above.
User-contributed activity data (via Strava sign-in) belongs to the user and to Strava under their terms.

Monopatia integrates with and links to third-party services, each governed by its own terms:

Strava — for OAuth sign-in and activity sync (Strava Terms)
Google — for OAuth sign-in (Google Terms)
OpenStreetMap and Thunderforest — for base map tiles
OpenTopoMap — for the topographic map style
Wikiloc — for some trail route references
Google Maps — for trailhead location links
Google Analytics — for anonymous traffic analytics
Vercel — for hosting and for storing uploaded review photos

Monopatia is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these services.

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
