The Agios Onoufrios Trail is a longer inland walk above Kapedes that rewards steady effort with some of the best broad views in the wider Machairas area. The route follows a registered path across open ground and gradually builds towards the chapel of Agios Onoufrios, giving the hike a clear and satisfying destination. Along the way, panoramic outlooks open towards Tamassos Dam, nearby communities, and the pine-covered slopes of the Machairas forest. It is a strong choice if you want a proper countryside hike with elevation, space, and a quieter feel than the island’s better-known coastal trails.
This trail was created with support from the Forestry Department and is designed as a route that showcases both landscape and flora. Walkers pass through terrain rich in typical Cypriot vegetation, with enough variation to keep the route interesting throughout.
Because it is longer than a quick village stroll, it suits hikers who want something more substantial without committing to a mountain ascent. The combination of chapel, reservoir views, and forest backdrop gives it a distinctly central-Cyprus character.

There are a few mushroom spots along the trail.
