The short Avakas Gorge Trail is one of the most dramatic nature walks in Cyprus, trading wide viewpoints for a deep, immersive landscape. The route leads into a narrow limestone gorge shaped by the Avgas River, where high rock walls, shade, and thick vegetation create a cooler and more intimate atmosphere than the open coast nearby. Even in its shorter form, the walk feels distinctive and memorable from the moment the gorge begins to close around you. It is ideal for hikers who want scenery that feels geological, wild, and completely different from a typical coastal trail.

The route begins on a dirt approach through a broader valley before entering the gorge itself. As the walls close in, the walk becomes far more dramatic: thick vegetation, polished rock, and the sound or presence of water make this feel very different from the exposed Akamas trails. In its final section, the path reaches the stream bed, where water often remains present through much of the year.

Even though this version is short, the terrain deserves attention. Wet stones, uneven footing, and the natural condition of the gorge mean it is best approached with good footwear and a bit of care, especially after rain.
