The Panagia Valana picnic site occupies a tree-shaded rise just above the village of Laneia in the Limassol district, at about 731 m — high enough that the whole village spreads out below. The tables stand between the old and the new chapels of Panagia Valana, which gives the place a quietly ceremonial feel: this is a spot people have been walking up to for a long time.

The site was laid out in 2011 with funding from a Department of Forests measure, and it keeps things simple: wooden tables under the trees — two of them marked for visitors with reduced mobility — a water tap, parking, and a playground. The deeper claim to fame lives down in the village: the icon of Panagia Valana, kept in Laneia's church of Panagia Chrysolanitissa, is held locally to be among the most ancient icons anywhere.

For walkers, the Zalakas trail — an 8 km hill route — starts about 700 m away, and the short Lofou walk is a short drive across the valley. Combined with Laneia's lanes and courtyards, that makes an easy half-day of village-and-hill wandering.
