Smigies is a well-known picnic site and trailhead in the Akamas peninsula, set in the forest above Neo Chorio at about 267 m of altitude. Laid out for around 240 people, it has barbecue hearths and wheelchair-accessible facilities, but no drinking water — so this is a place to come self-sufficient, carrying everything you need for the day.

Its real role is as a gateway to the Akamas trails. The two Smigies loops — long and short — and the Pissouromoutti trail all begin right at the site, within about 35 m of the tables, and the E4 European long-distance path passes a few hundred metres away. Few picnic grounds on the island put so many walks within a single step of the car.
