Stavros tis Psokas is the classic deep-forest picnic site of western Cyprus, laid out around the Department of Forests station of the same name in the heart of the Paphos Forest, at 806 m of altitude. Getting here is part of the experience — the site lies about 20 km from Lysos or Kannaviou and 26 km from Kykkos Monastery — and the reward is a genuinely remote mountain setting with room for close to 590 people, barbecue hearths, a children's playground and wheelchair-accessible facilities.

The station is a small world of its own: the Forest Department runs a guest house, a campsite and a small store here, and a fenced enclosure nearby holds the Cyprus mouflon — the island's endemic wild sheep — together with deer.

Few picnic sites are better placed for hikers. The long-distance E4 route passes right through the station area, the Chorteri trail starts a few hundred metres away, Moutti tou Stavrou begins under a kilometre from the site, and the famous Cedar Valley trail is about 4 km away.
