The Apollo Hylates Trail combines light hiking with archaeology, making it one of the most distinctive short walks near Kourion. Starting opposite the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, the route passes through open scrubland with sparse pines and continues by the ancient Kourion stadium before reaching an elevated viewpoint. From there, the trail opens onto wide views over Episkopi Beach and the surrounding archaeological landscape. It is an excellent choice if you want a walk that mixes history, open scenery, and a clear sense of place.
What makes this route special is the combination of natural and cultural layers. Rather than being just a scenic path, it also feels like an extension of the ancient site itself, with the terrain helping connect monuments, coastline, and settlement history.
Because it is short and easy, the trail works very well as part of a half-day visit to the sanctuary and the Kourion area. It is especially appealing for walkers who enjoy routes where interpretation and views matter as much as distance.
Reviews
This is an easy trail suitable for families and people walking slowly. I have no completed it but I done around 2km of it. The archaeology is open access (no tickets), and its an ancient sports stadium. The rest of the archaeology on the path is with ticket and it was a roman hospital. At some points of the trail you can see curium bay, a majestic view of the sea. In summer time I would recommend a hat with wide brim, lots of water, and sunscream. The best time of the year to hike in cyprus is springtime or autumn, not summer.
