The Artemis Trail is an accessible 7.2 km circular loop high in the Troodos Mountains that circles Mount Olympus (Chionistra), Cyprus's highest peak at 1,850 metres, and takes you through ancient forests of black pine and past ruins of medieval Venetian fortifications. This moderate hike offers excellent scenic rewards without extreme technical difficulty, with two remarkable 500-year-old black pine trees among the forest's highlights and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains whenever you emerge from the shaded canopy. The trail remains relatively cool even in summer thanks to the forest cover, and the historical ruins add a sense of exploration to what feels like a rewarding mountain circumnavigation. It is perfect if you want high-altitude forest scenery with gentle grades and a touch of medieval history.

The walk winds through tranquil pine forests, providing a peaceful alternative to more crowded lower-altitude trails. The elevation ensures cooler temperatures and interesting micro-climate changes, while the historic fortification ruins (built during the final years of Venetian rule around 1571) provide engaging waypoints along the journey.

Ideal from April through November, this trail offers reliable, rewarding high-mountain hiking suitable for intermediate hikers and families comfortable with modest elevation.

Great

A must-visit train in Cyprus. The highest one, good all year round. One of the few with snow in winter months. Has one of the best sunsets and quite often is above the clouds.
