Trails for Kids
Thirty-two trails we would happily take children on: 22 of them are 3 km or shorter, and 25 climb no more than 100 m. They are spread across nine districts, so there is one within reach wherever you are staying.
Where to start
- Persephone — 3 km from Troodos square through black pine to the Makria Kontarka viewpoint, almost without climbing.
- Kampos tou Livadiou — a 3.3 km loop high in Troodos, starting from a picnic site with drinking water.
- Vateri — 570 m beside the river in old Kakopetria, over wooden bridges to an old spring.
- Treis Elies — 1.8 km along the Drakontas river to two Venetian bridges.
- Xyliatos — a 3.6 km loop around a reservoir, with a playground at the picnic site where it starts.
- Athalassa — eight flat walks in Nicosia's forest park, from under a kilometre to 5.7 km. The Sculpture Park loop is the shadiest.
Good to know
"Kids" here means short and interesting, not pushchair-friendly. Kalidonia is on the list for its waterfall, but it climbs 385 m in 2.9 km, and Artemis is level but 7.3 km long. Check the distance and the elevation profile on the trail page before you promise anyone an easy walk.
Sun matters more with children. Ten of these trails are in our Shady collection; nine take eleven hours or more of direct sun in midsummer, and those are for early mornings or the cooler months. A trail with a picnic site gives you a table, and often water, at the end.
