Platania is one of the largest picnic and excursion grounds in the Troodos mountains, set in the Adelfoi state forest at about 1,120 m of altitude. Laid out for well over two thousand people, it is a proper mountain destination rather than a roadside stop: drinking water, barbecue hearths, a playground, and wheelchair-accessible facilities spread through the pine forest, with plenty of room for large groups on a summer weekend.
Its position on the northern side of the Troodos massif makes it an excellent trail base. The E4 European long-distance path runs right past the site, barely 50 m away, and within a few kilometres you can pick up Chrysovrysi, Mnimata Piskopon, and Loumata ton Aeton — enough to build a full day of mountain walking around one set of tables.
