Athalassa: Picnic Area - Agios Georgios

The Picnic Area to Agios Georgios walk is a gentle urban-park route through Athalassa National Forest Park, connecting two of the park's main gathering points. Starting at the busy Picnic Area with its tables and facilities, the path rolls through eucalyptus and pine groves, passing near the Athalassa Dam and its observation point before reaching the quieter Agios Georgios chapel area with its small lake and lit perimeter path. At just over 4 km, it is a proper outing rather than a quick stroll — enough distance to feel purposeful — but entirely flat and accessible, ideal for families, dog walkers, runners, and anyone looking for a green escape on Nicosia's edge without technical challenge.

The walk sits entirely within Athalassa's well-maintained network of gravel and paved paths, where you will encounter cyclists, other walkers, and planted native species. There is little sense of isolation or wilderness; this is supervised recreation in a managed forest. The lake at Agios Georgios and the observation point near the dam are the main waypoints, each offering a natural pause. Drinking water and basic facilities are available at both ends.

This is an excellent choice if you want a substantial walk with genuine length and a real sense of moving through the park from one landmark to another, but without exposure, elevation, or rough terrain. Athalassa draws locals for daily exercise, and this trail captures that community character well.
