Athalassa: Nations Park - Agios Georgios
The Athalassa: Nations Park – Agios Georgios trail is a peaceful, flat walk through urban green space on Nicosia's southeastern edge. This 3 km route connects two picnic areas within Athalassa National Forest Park: the Park of Nations and the Agios Georgios recreation area. For a casual stroll that keeps you under 45 minutes, it's the kind of walk that suits a lunch-hour escape, a family outing, or a gentle jog among pines and open-air pavilions.
The park sits within an impressive 840-hectare urban forest—one of Cyprus's largest protected green spaces—which wraps around Nicosia's perimeter. The trail itself stays on well-kept paths and skirts the edges of the Athalassa Dam and Lake. There is little elevation change; the whole route is essentially flat, making it accessible to walkers of all abilities and those with young children or dogs (the park has a designated dog pathway).
Much of the walk passes through wooded stretches of Mediterranean vegetation and open sections beside park facilities—picnic tables, pavilions, and the gentle waterside of the lake. The tone is relaxed and suburban rather than wilderness; you'll often see other visitors, families gathered at picnic sites, and cyclists on the wider paths.
