Gnafkio

The Gnafkio Trail is a linear forest walk in the heart of the Paphos Forest, in the mountain country between Kykkos Monastery and the villages of Kampos and Tsakistra. It sets off from the Kykkos–Tsakistra road close to the start of the Panthea trail and runs roughly south-east for just over 5 km, dropping from around 930 m into a stream valley before climbing part of the way back out. With about 280 m of ascent and 330 m of descent, it is a moderate outing on paper, though some of the slopes are steep enough to demand steady footing.

The first half stays under tall pines, with dense, often moss-covered undergrowth that makes this one of the greenest walks in the area, especially in winter. Gaps in the trees open onto the valley of Selladi tou Petrou, while the later, more open stretch looks across towards the main Troodos range, which is at its most striking when snow lies on the high ground.

It is a good choice for hikers who want a quiet, shaded walk in the remote western forest rather than a busy summit route. Being linear, it needs either a car shuttle or a return along the same path; the neighbouring Antrouklies trail starts just a few hundred metres away if you want to add a steeper climb.
