The Panagia tou Araka – Stavros tou Agiasmati Trail is one of the most culturally rich walks in the central highlands, linking two exceptional painted churches that are both on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Beyond the ecclesiastical importance, the route also offers a striking mountain walk with panoramic views towards Kionia, Morphou Bay, the Pentadaktylos range, Xyliatos dam, Olympos, and the Madari area. The second part of the trail is especially memorable, crossing impressive diabase cliffs and eroded slopes that give the walk a more rugged geological character. It is an excellent route for hikers who want world-class church heritage and a serious mountain landscape in the same outing.
