Dam & Reservoir Trails

Where to start

• Xyliatos — a 3.6 km loop right around the reservoir, through pine and oak, with only 97 m of climbing. The Fraktis Xyliatou picnic site at the start has drinking water, barbecues and a playground.
• Germasogeia Dam — 1.9 km around a small peninsula in the reservoir above Limassol, almost flat.
• Argaka (short) — an 8.6 km circuit on a gentle forest road, with views over Argaka dam, Akamas and the Bay of Polis Chrysochous. The long version is 10.4 km.
• Prodromos Dam – Stavroulia (short) — 4.9 km downhill through Troodos forest from the highest reservoir on the island, above 1,300 m, losing 383 m on the way.

Good to know

Reservoirs fill over the winter and drop through the summer, so the same walk looks very different in April and in October. Our sister project Fragmata shows how full each one is right now.

Open water means open sky. Argaka, Germasogeia and Sotira take around twelve hours of direct sun on a midsummer day; only the two Prodromos trails and Venetian Bridges make our Shady collection. For the natural salt lake at Akrotiri and the smaller mountain reservoirs, see the lake trails.
