The short Argaka Dam Trail offers the same attractive forest-and-reservoir setting as the longer route, but in a more accessible format. It crosses the Agios Merkurios valley within the Pafos Forest, following a gentle forest road that opens towards Argaka village, the northeastern side of Akamas, and the full sweep of the Bay of Polis Chrysochous. Even in the shorter version, the dam itself remains the defining visual anchor of the hike. It is a very good choice for walkers who want the Argaka landscape and biodiversity without committing to the longest circuit.

The official guide highlights the ecological value of the route, with extensive local shrubland, Calabrian pine, and opportunities to observe birds, insects, and other wildlife. The trail also sits in a protected forest context, which adds to its appeal for nature-focused walkers.

This is the better option if you want the same essential setting as the long route but with a little less time on foot. It feels like a balanced scenic outing rather than a strenuous hike.
