Kampos tou Livadiou
Kampos Tou Livadiou is an easy circular walk through Troodos National Forest featuring ancient black pine forests and extensive views across the Solea Valley and Morphou Bay. This 3km loop near Pano Platres is accessible to all fitness levels, including wheelchair users, and offers panoramic vistas of Mount Olympus and the surrounding landscape. The trail's picnic site provides fresh drinking water and sits just 3km from Troodos square in the heart of Cyprus's protected mountain forest.
The trail begins at the Kampos tou Livadiou picnic area, a well-maintained facility with parking, amenities, and a fountain offering cool drinking water. From this point, hikers follow a gentle circular route through ancient black pine forests (Pinus nigra pallasiana), a native species that has evolved over millennia in the Troodos high mountains. These gnarled, aged trees create a distinctive forest character – spare and somewhat austere compared to lower-elevation forests, but offering authentic alpine atmosphere and views unobstructed by dense undergrowth.
Elevation gain is minimal, and wheelchair-accessible infrastructure makes this trail extraordinary for visitors with mobility challenges. The panoramic views extend across the Solea Valley to the north and toward Morphou Bay beyond, while Mount Olympus – the Troodos range's highest peak – dominates views in certain directions. The entire forest is protected as part of the Troodos National Forest Park and designated a NATURA 2000 site, meaning the landscape and ecosystem you experience here have been carefully managed to preserve their natural character and biodiversity.
