Kattoudhia - Mylikouri
Kattoudhia to Mylikouri is a pleasant 2.8km linear walk following a mountain river through the Paphas Forest foothills, ending at the traditional village of Mylikouri at 800 meters elevation. The trail passes through pine forest and along a river that runs dry in summer, offering a scenic route with opportunities to experience authentic Greek village life. The destination village features medieval history, traditional architecture, and the Agios Georgios church built in 1726, surrounded by the vast Paphas Forest expanse.
The trail begins in the foothills of the Paphas Forest and follows a river valley that provides water and shade throughout the route. During spring and early summer, water flows continuously, creating a pleasant riverside walk with the sound of running water providing ambiance. In summer, the riverbed becomes dry or reduced to small pools, but the trail remains passable and scenic. The surrounding pine forest offers typical Paphas Forest character – relatively dense canopy, occasional openings with views, and understory vegetation typical of Mediterranean mountain forests.
Mylikouri itself represents a living example of traditional Cypriot village culture. Built at 800 meters elevation in a mountainous terrain, the village dates to medieval times when it served as a royal fief within the feudal system. Today, it maintains traditional architecture and community character while welcoming visitors. The Agios Georgios church, built in 1726, stands as the village's spiritual and architectural centerpiece, its stone construction and iconography representing centuries of Byzantine and Orthodox Christian tradition. The village's location within the Paphas Forest – one of the Mediterranean's most extensive pine forests – offers a sense of remoteness and authenticity rarely found in more developed tourist areas.
