Selladi tou Karamanli - Moutti tis Choras
The Selladi tou Karamanli – Moutti tis Choras Trail is a short but rewarding ridge walk on the Madari massif in central Cyprus, connecting two named viewpoints with sweeping panoramas over the central plain and surrounding peaks. Starting at the saddle of Selladi tou Karamanli, the route ascends gently along the exposed Madari ridge toward Moutti tis Choras (the Peak of the Capital), passing through a landscape of thin pines and windswept vegetation. The walk feels properly scenic for its modest distance, opening out views across Morphou Bay to the north and the broader Troodos range to the south. This is an excellent choice if you want a focused, high-altitude segment of the famous Madari ridge circuit, offering mountain character and significant visual reward without the full commitment of the longer circular walk.
The trail traverses dense pine forest—part of the "Mavra Dasi" (Black Forest)—which provides welcome shade on the more exposed sections. The ridge becomes progressively more open as you approach Moutti tis Choras, revealing vistas that grow wider and more dramatic with each step. The overall tone is one of measured exposure and scenic substance, making it feel like a proper mountain passage rather than a casual stroll.
This segment sits within a larger network of interconnected Madari trails and can be easily combined with nearby sections, such as the Doxa Soi o Theos route or the descent toward Selladi tou Karamanli – Kannavia, allowing extended options for more ambitious hikers. The relatively short distance and clear ridge landmark make this an ideal pairing with other moderate routes in the region.
