The Sotira trail is a moderate 4.5 km walk through open grazing lands west of Limassol, offering abundant birdwatching opportunities and rural countryside character. Located partly in the Limassol District and partly within the Akrotiri and Dhekelia British Overseas Territory, this trail crosses grassland habitat rich with avian life, particularly in the first 3–4 km where a variety of bird species make their home. The walking pace is easy but the atmosphere is distinctly pastoral—open air rather than forest shade, with views across quiet agricultural valleys.

The most rewarding section is the first half of the route, which traverses active and abandoned grazing areas where local birdlife thrives. The second portion of the trail enters military-controlled territory and is not recommended for completion, so most hikers treat the outbound grassland section as a destination itself. The lack of forest cover means good early-morning or late-afternoon timing is essential to avoid midday heat exposure.

This is ideal for birdwatchers, nature photographers, and those seeking a quieter rural hiking experience away from forest crowds. The open character and wildlife focus make it distinctive among Cyprus's nature trails, though preparation for sun exposure is essential.
