Agios Merkourios is one of the classic picnic grounds of the Paphos Forest, set at around 260 metres in the wooded hills behind Polis Chrysochous bay. The usual approach is the Polis – Stavros tis Psokas road through Lysos, about 20 km from Polis, with alternative forest-road access from Argaka and Gialia — the drive in through the pines is part of the day out. With room for over 200 people, drinking water, and dedicated barbecue spots (bring charcoal — gathering wood in the forest is not allowed), it is built for the long, unhurried Cypriot forest lunch. Access ramps and an accessible bathroom make it one of the more wheelchair-friendly sites in the forest, though there is no playground.
The site also works well as a base for the trails on this side of the forest. The E4 European long-distance route passes about 3 km away, and the Argaka (long) and Argaka (short) loops around the Argaka dam start within roughly 4 km.
