Akadimia is Nicosia's in-town picnic ground, set in the Pedagogical Academy National Forest Park between Aglantzia and the capital, only about two kilometres from the city centre. It is a big site by urban standards — over 300 places — with drinking water, a playground, and wheelchair-accessible facilities, while the surrounding park adds a pedestrian walkway, a cycling path, a kiosk, and parking. One thing to know before you pack the cooler: barbecues are not part of the setup here, so plan a picnic rather than a souvla.
When lunch turns into a walking day, the Athalassa trail network is about two and a half kilometres away: Athalassa: Picnic Area - Agios Georgios and Athalassa: Agios Georgios - Botanical Gardens both make easy, family-friendly extensions to an afternoon at the tables.
