Alona’s Hazelnut Forest – Petros Vanezis is a short but distinctive village nature trail that captures the cultivated, green character of Pitsilia. The route passes through dense plantings of hazelnut, cherry, apple, and almond trees, creating a walk that feels intimate, fertile, and unusually lush for Cyprus. Even though the distance is modest, the setting makes it memorable and full of local personality. It is ideal for a relaxed outing focused on atmosphere, village landscape, and seasonal beauty.
The path reflects one of the most attractive sides of Alona: terraced cultivation, greenery, and a softer mountain environment shaped by orchards and water. It is less about challenge and more about enjoying the village’s agricultural identity at a gentle pace.
Because the route is so compact, it works especially well as a short stop while exploring the Marathasa and Pitsilia villages. In the right season, it should be particularly rewarding for walkers interested in blossom, shade, and orchard scenery.

Nice little trail that goes through lot's of vegetation with fruits and berries down to the river and back. Good choice for a hot summer day - in the evening (after 17-18) it's all in the shade from the mountains. Sometimes close to being overgrown, but the path has been recently cleared. Lot's of signs. The little appendix to the "Traditional water pool" was not worth it.
