Church Trails
Thirty-two trails pass a church or a chapel, from the painted churches of the Troodos valleys to the sea-edge chapels of Cape Greko. On many of them the church is the reason the path exists: an old way between a village and its chapel.
Where to start
- Agios Theodoros – Asinou — 5.5 km through forest to Panagia tis Asinou, a UNESCO World Heritage church known for its murals.
- Archangelos – Mylos tis Rodous — 1.8 km in the Solea valley from the church of Archangel Michael, past Panagia Podithou, to an old watermill.
- Konnoi – Agioi Anargyroi — 1.3 km along the shore from Konnos Beach to a small chapel above a sea cave.
- Lefkara – Metamorfoseos tou Sotiros Church — 1.2 km and 116 m up to a hilltop church with views over Pano and Kato Lefkara.
- Vavla – Panagia tis Agapis — a 6.7 km loop in the Larnaca hills to the chapel of Panagia tis Agapis.
Good to know
Thirteen of these trails are 3 km or shorter, so a church walk fits easily into a day of village-hopping. Small chapels are often locked outside services, and the painted churches keep limited hours — treat an open door as a bonus, and dress for it: shoulders and knees covered.
Chapels like hilltops and headlands. Twelve of these trails take eleven hours or more of direct sun in midsummer, and only two are in our Shady collection. For Kykkos, Machairas and Stavrovouni, see the monastery trails.
